1. Find out where they’re being held
Most arrests in the county go to the Palm Beach County Main Detention Center (3228 Gun Club Road, West Palm Beach). You’ll want the person’s full name and, if you can get it, their booking number. Don’t have it? A bondsman can look it up for you.
2. Wait for the bail amount to be set
After booking, bail is set — quickly for many charges, or at a first appearance hearing (usually within 24 hours) for more serious ones. That number is the key to everything else.
3. Don’t post about the case online
It’s tempting to vent or explain, but anything public can be used later. Keep the details off social media. Talk to the people who can actually help — a bondsman and, if needed, a defense attorney.
4. Call a bail bondsman
You don’t have to pay the full bail. A licensed bondsman posts the whole amount for you, and you pay a fraction (10% in Florida). Call one who answers fast and will explain your options plainly. If money’s tight, ask about a payment plan — a good bondsman has one.
5. Write down every court date
Once your person is out, the single most important thing is showing up to every court date. Missing one can cancel the bond and lead to re-arrest. Put each date on a calendar the day you get it.
